Interview #4- quayandco

Recently I had the delight of talking with quayandco, a wonderful designer of this----->

She even let me ask her a few questions....

So, what's your name?:
Jennifer Johnson.

She said her name was pretty "unoriginal", but as another Jenny, I have to say- We rock!

Where are you located?:
Denver

What do you make?:
"Pincushions for the gal who collects, enjoys, and loves original art as pincushions."

What makes you drool?:
"Well, I work in a fabric store as a second job. I always seem to drool over the different textures of fabric and how to combine them in my pincushions to achieve a *personality* for each one."

How long have you been doing that?:
"The idea came in January, made in July and listed in August."

Inspiration to create such unique and fun things?:
She says "it's all about combining different fabrics and textures. I know it sounds redundant, but that's what does it for me."

Any other sites we should know about?:
I'm just "getting my feet wet right now, so no..."

Anything else about your fantabulous life you want to share with us?:
"Whoa... Fantabulous may be a bit over the line!"

Faves:
Food: Sushi, but "can't have it all the time"
Color: Pink, but she doesn't wear it much, just "admires from afar"
Word: Written- John Irving
Person: Jack Johnson because "he's all over the board and great at everything he does from music, film, surf pro, etc."

*****************************************************************************
Jennifer was a delight to speak with... Funny, smart and talented! Exactly what I love about the crafting/indie/etsy community!

The picture above features her Wheat Chex Pincushion, which I happen to adore!

They picked and the Why!

As you can see from my blog, as a whole, that I really like looking at other people's work! More than that, I like to show off what I love! This time, I asked a few great artists to pick their faves and then tell me why!

*************************************************************************************

bluebaby chose her Soft Crochet Flapper Hat because it's "comfy and has the bow on the side", but she says they are all comfy!

I personally love the pic! It looks so incredibly soft!

*************************************************************************************
verybigjen chose her very lovely Custom Japanese Cherry Blossoms Pincushion because she "had an idea and executed it without any prolems", but who, as an artist, can't enjoy that!?

As soon as I start sewing some more, I'm going to drool over this lovely pincushion.... And probably buy it because I love it!

*************************************************************************************
curbsidetreasure said afternoon teatime, an original collage, was her favorite because of the "softness of the blue and white". It made her think of "being relaxed in an afternoon, sipping tea".

It is quite relaxing, isn't it? Makes me dream of summers and tea....

Boosting Myself for a Change....

This past week has been a slight drain on my soul... Feeling a little let down, but trying to keep my head up and charging along!

I've been toying with some new ideas, but finding time has been fleeting...

Wow, I sound depressing... I'm really just plodding along. Hope you enjoy what you see!

Odd/Interesting Work #2

I was just chilling in the chats and distracted by something or the other so I wasn't chatting, per se..... I was just browsing through stores. Well, I came across this little creature---->

He was happily sitting in RubySubmarine's Shop among the other fun things!

He (or she, I guess) is crocheted with CASHMERE! I love cashmere... It's like butter, but not edible and non-greasy. So, maybe it's not really like butter, but it's soft and smooth!

The Tiny Cashmere Octopus Bracelet for only $17!

Cute as Cute Can Be!

Art #1- Biased Opinion

Last night I got home to my boyfriend finishing up his current artwork. It's the fourth in a series of 'Key' collages. Quite a lovely piece if I may so myself, but I'm a little biased.

I don't want to download and post a pic of his artwork before I ask him, so for now you'll just have to click the link and check it out!

Uffda

I had my first jewelry/Mary Kay party on Saturday, October 6th.... My friend sells Mary Kay and has a big house. We invited a whole bunch of people, expecting 1/4 to 1/2 showing up, which is exactly what happened!

I invited my friend Dee to come. I had never met Dee in person. I solely had spoken to her on etsy... I wasn't nervous because she's pretty freaking awesome... Well, I asked for some of her delicious soap... And I think I drooled on myself when I smelled the first bar.... I'm in love....

Oh and her daughter is so cute! I just wanted to pinch her cheeks... I gave her cookies instead....

Either way, the soap the little one helped make is the best smelling soap ever!!! Don't you just wanna eat it up?!

Amused #1- Ninja!

So, I'm sitting in a chat room and in walks Moony... Well, not walks, I guess, but logs in... You get what I'm saying.

I'm browsing through Moony's store and I'm giggling like a goofy girl. The Little Ninja just made me crack up.

I kind of want him.... I kind of think I may have to have him. For now... I'm going to share him with you....

Blah blah blaaaaah

Ok. I'm new to this whole blogging thing, but I'm really enjoying it. I'm a rambler, so I try to avoid talking about any one thing in particular... I really love looking at everyone's shops though! THAT is why there are so many pictures of people's pretty pieces..... I'm going to continually add new posts featuring shops/artists who I think are talented and deserve the recognition!

I do look at everyone's comments and then check their blogs... That's how I've found some really talented people! Feel free to comment... I may just gush about you one day....

Love to Love Ya, Baaaaaby!

Interview #3 - zblankets

As I said in a previous post, I had been getting a lot of baby shower invites... And as a non-parent, I really don't know what the little monsters need. Kidding about the monsters, but you know what I mean.

A friend of mine, zblankets, was another of my first choices! Her prices are great (though I continually tell her to raise them) for the products she produces! Her blankets are HUGE! The seams are perfect!

My nephew has one and I just bought another for a new baby girl! If someone doesn't snatch this Star Dragons up soon, I'll be buying that too!

Talent #4

A few months ago I found myself drowning in baby shower invitations. Not that I mind babies at all, but I never know what to get people. I like to buy unique gifts... Which usually means something that isn't on their lists.... Needless to say, I run the risk of them hating what I buy.

I know many a good seamstress, but I had the hardest time deciding on who to buy from and what exactly to get..... Well, it was locked when I saw Sugarfoot's store. An adorable pink and camo blankie... It was delicious!

A wonderfully talented person, Sugarfoots made shopping easy! It was deliverd incredibly fast also!

Here is a cute new set in Tropical Chocolate on the right!
